embers flicker but they never die

Homecoming.

The word hits us in the gut and brings memories flooding back. Whether good, or bad, or how long ago, it makes us remember, even if we don't want to. For some, we don't have memories at the dance, but memories of the countless hours obsessing about that year we can finally go to the most magical night of your life. Tomorrow that dreaming will come to an end. I actually will have been to Homecoming. I will know what it's like. I'll need to find a new dream. As "Tangled" puts it:

{Rapunzel: I’ve been looking out of the window for eighteen years, dreaming about what I might feel like when those {lights rise in the sky. What if it’s not everything I dreamed it would be?
{Flynn:  It will be.
{Rapunzel: And what if it is? What do I do then?
{Flynn: Well, that’s the good part I guess. You get to go find a new dream.

It's scary. You don't know If it's going to be what you expected. If it is, then you have to move on from that dream, what you've been yearning for, for so long. It's what you cling to when nothing else seems possible or worth it. I know that if I keep pushing and holding on, I'll get to it someday. But now what? I've reached my goal, now what do I turn to dreaming about? Will I be left without a dream? I can dream about impossible things, but that will do me no good. I can't trust those, I can't rely that I will get there. There are the dreams that you think, "I wish.." and the dreams you know you will get eventually.

The dreams you don't get, or are less than you wanted, where do they go? Owl City says
"Dreams Don't turn to Dust"
They're always here. In your memory. In your past. In your future. In your present. What makes you, you. They are no longer big burning flames that you are always thinking about, nor are they just dust, just ashes of an earlier life. They are embers, still warm, and able to start another fire, if you let them. You still notice them, but not as often, or care as much about them.

It's weird. You can feel things that are like embers in everyday life. You can sense they are there but its unnecessary to say they are. What people think of you is like that. You can tell if they like you or don't usually. There's also a different kind of ember, too. Except it's more like a spark. There was a flame there originally, then it died, but something is still there. Now we're starting to rebuild it. Don't hurt me this time, please.

Love. Savannah
