sleep
I think the best thing was watching you sleep. You were so peaceful and content. You felt so comfortable around me that you could just sleep and not have to worry about me doing anything. Complete trust. I watched your chest move up and down with every breath and your eyes shut tight. Drowsily, you turned your head and moved your eyes to meet mine. In an exhale of breath, I heard you whisper, "Why are you so pretty?" and move your head back towards the pillow. I smiled to myself and blushed, but you didn't see, for you were already back asleep. You told me to wake you up if you fell asleep, but I never did. I loved watching you sleep because it was a way I had never seen you. Usually you are the muscle man, big and strong, and someone people look to. Seeing you sleep, I saw the side of you that was vulnerable and weak. The side that showed you were human. You aren't always so tough. You don't know I took this picture of you. I took it to remind myself of this moment-- when you were so tired you couldn't keep your eyes open, when you were small and susceptible to anything. I keep this to remind myself that everyone is human. I keep this to remind myself that nobody can appear tough every second of the day. But honestly, I just keep this because you're sleeping and I love it when you are.
love, savannah
